What’s the difference between a cosmetic airbrush and a regular one?

I'm thinking of buying a Luminess air pro cosmetic airbrush set but my dad, who's an artist, says that I should just buy a regular one (one used for paints) and buy the liquid foundation instead of the whole set because it'll be cheaper.

Is he right?

Is there really a difference between the two?
